Vitamin B deficiency can have fatal consequences on victims if not treated in time. This is because it affects the proper functioning of important faculties of the body like the mind, nervous and cardiovascular systems. If the nervous system is not well-developed, such a child will not have sensitivity and body co-ordination could be adversely affected. Closely related to infants and expectant mothers is the folic acid, usually, vitamin B9. Its deficiency leads to poor development of the foetus. If a baby is born with defects, it is possible that the mother did not have enough B9 in their body during the pregnancy. For you to give birth to a physically and mentally healthy child, make sure that you take foods rich in folic acid.

For those at an advanced age, various faculties in the body such as the digestion system slow down and this lowers the rate of absorption of nutrients. This may result to low levels of cobalamin (B12). Such a situation is characterized by memory lapses, anemia and other symptoms. It is necessary to get medical attention as prolonged stay in this situation can lead to serious damages to the nervous system. With the said effects of Vitamin B deficiency, no one should take such a situation lightly. Of importance is to watch for the signs and symptoms keenly so that those affected can seek medical attention immediately.
