Product Excellence From Horseware Ireland

By Jayne Rutledge

Established in 1985 horseware Ireland has set the standard for the horseware industry leaving competitors with only the option to copy their work and ideas. Proprietors Tom and Carol MacGuiness have a company policy that demands innovation and constant review of products they create. This policy has lead to many improvements in the original rug created for horses.

The first product to be produced was the Rambo rug, designed to keep the horses dry and warm as well as not slip around on them or cause them to sweat excessively. By 1996 they were leading the industry in production and sales of turnout rugs. The success of their products lead them to establish new standards for the industry around the world.

The products they have created show that they are constantly working to improve on them. The rugs have morphed into wugs and the reasoning for the changes show a highly developed knowledge of the needs of consumers and their horses. Although both products are available they cater to separate uses and most times to different climates and terrains.

They have made improvements that consist of higher neck covers, front clasps to stop sliding, head and tail guards and light weight rugs designed to keep flies and other pests off of the animal. The variety of different fabrics and fillers that are used will keep your horse comfortable regardless of where you live.

The special fillers that are used are thermo-bonded to recover the fullness, or loft, should the horse crush it in some manner. This special feature allows air to circulate evenly in and around the rug, thereby keeping the animal warmer and dryer than other rugs or wugs. Another aspect of their products is called rip-stop. This system, originally used in flack jackets for police and soldiers, helps keep the covers from tearing should they get punctured during normal use.

This company has perfected a system of treatment for fabrics that allows them to repel water while maintaining the ability to let body heat and moisture to pass out of it. The chemical bonding process retains the supplicant feel of the fabric to be maintained indefinitely. This nanotech process was revolutionary in the industry.

Over the past twenty plus years this company has built a reputation of excellence and innovation in the horse community. They have been given highest honors for the wugs and turn out rugs for up to ten years consecutively. The diversity of lines they have created has worked to their benefit and to the benefit of customers and their animals.

The Horseware Ireland Company is also an environmentally friendly enterprise. They use only renewable wind generated power in their Irish factory. They are also very community aware and have aligned themselves with the Manege Zonder Dremples who create and supply specially adapted carriages for severely disabled children as a form of therapy. Another alliance is with the ISPCA by supplying horse and dog rugs for abandoned and abused animals that have been rescued. They project a superbly professional attitude that speaks to the future of the world.
