Brewing Tea The Traditional Way

By Robert Neely

For nearly 4,000 years, people in Far East used tea as a natural home cure for most health issues. A cup of tea can bring relaxation in addition to healing to an individual. Typically a lot of novice tea consumers have unsatisfactory tea time, due to the lack of expertise on how to prepare tea. Studying the appropriate way can increase the taste and the health.

The creation of tea bags during the early 20th century revolutionized the tea market. It was easier and faster to make a cup of tea. It definitely made it faster to spread tea to the western market. Most industry experts however would rather prepare tea the traditional way using loose tea leaves and tea strainer, mainly because they are generally lower priced as well as better in quality. Any time preparing by the traditional way, it is very important to have the proper relative amount of tea and water. Single teaspoon per Eight ounce is known to be a good ratio.

When fixing tea for the first time, many of us disregard the importance of water. It is important to use pure filtered water to get the best flavor. Using previously boiled left over water will degrade the flavor. There are arguments with the ideal temperature; a lot of experts think the right temperature of water for green tea is approximately 80 degrees Celsius. Regarding oolong and black tea, the temperature could be a bit higher. Having a thermometer would probably help, but it may be inconvenient. A lot of Chinese chefs figure out the water temperature by just looking at the bubbles. 80 degrees Celsius occurs when tiny individual bubbles are developing to the surface.

As soon as the water is ready, now it is time for steeping. Green tea usually comes with more bitter taste than oolong and black. Therefore steeping greater than 2 minutes will be more than necessary. Most experts will say 2 minutes is enough. But, if left under a minute, it may not have sufficient tastes. For oolong tea and black tea, preferred soaking time is between 3 to 5 minutes. This is simply a guideline and there is not any correct or incorrect when it comes to flavor. Some surprisingly enjoy the bitterness of tea.

Today, a lot of people have an interest in consuming tea for health improvements such as anti-aging skin care, weight reduction and cancer protection. Presently there are also other ways to gain the health benefits without making the tea. Blending Matcha, premium green tea extract powder produced in Japan, with lemon water may be a tasty alternative. Also simply taking green tea extract capsules is the most effortless way of gaining from tea.
