The Fundamentals About Long Island Acupuncture

By Cherry Mercer

Long Island acupuncture is an alternative medical treatment that came from ancient Chinese community. It is applied in treating people by manipulating thin, solid needles, which are inserted into the human skin at acupoints also called acupuncture points. Manipulation of these needles is intended to arouse the mythical energy known as qi, which circulates the body. The mythical qi energy circulates around the body along channels called meridians.

This technique of treatment was broadly used in the old China and is still used in many parts upto this day. This exercise prevails despite the fact that a correlation among meridians, acupuncture points, and the qi has never be found according to scientific research. Because of lack of a correlation, some medical professionals use needles without adhering to the traditional framework used in the practice.

Further research indicates that this method of treatment is more effective in the relief of certain kinds of pain and/or post-operative nausea. Some reviews however, come to conclusion that the effect caused by this method is too minute to be of any clinical importance. They claim this to be as a result of insufficient experimental blinding. The other explanation may be because of publication bias.

This treatment is invasive that it makes it difficult to formulate experiments that adequately control placebo effects. Most tests carried out between this traditional method and sham procedures show that they are very efficient compared to usual care. The tests indicate that the 2 procedures are equivalent though acupuncture fanatics have higher preference for it than sham procedures.

There are several world class medical bodies that endorse this old treatment as being the best for certain circumstances. Such organizations comprise the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health of USA, and National Health Service in the UK. Some scientists highly criticize the endorsements as having disregarded objections and criticisms forwarded against the efficiency of the method.

A visit of an acupuncturist is basically similar to that made to any other medical practitioner. A diagnosis is the first activity done and it involves questioning patients. There are four major diagnostic techniques used. They include palpation, inquiring, olfaction and auscultation, and inspection. Inspection concentrates on the face especially the tongue. The practitioner analyses tongue size, tension, color, shape, and coating among other characteristics.

Auscultation and olfaction entail attending to body scents and listening to sounds one produces such as wheezing. Inquiring is more concerned about the 7 inquiries, which are, thirst and taste, perspiration, appetite, chills and fever, defecation and urination, pain, and sleep. Palpation entails feeling the body for gentle A-shi points and palpating right and/or left radial pulses.

It is generally agreed among some members of the public and scientists that this alternative treatment is secure when administered by a professional. All it needs is to utilize sterile needles because the risk involved is very low. This is why Long Island acupuncture is the most elegant option to consider when one needs such services. There are experts in the area who have sufficient experience and knowledge about the treatment.
