Selecting the best diet plan can be as difficult as sticking with one. There are thousands to choose from and they all contradict each other, so it's difficult to know which one is right. You may have heard of diets such as the 1500 Calorie Diet that are based on limiting your intake of calories to a certain figure every day. The best thing about this particular program is that it does not limit you in regard to what you eat as long as you stay within the recommended range of calories each day. What you need to do is make sure the portions in your meals have a breakdown of 40% protein, 30% carbs, and only 30% fat to help you reach your goals. Simply stated, by counting the total calories in every snack and meal that you eat every day, you will at some point reach your goals. If you're going to try a calorie based diet, just make sure you don't choose one that's too extreme for your body's nutritional needs.

Many people who go on a diet focus many on reducing fat. When choosing a low fat weight loss program, you need to be aware that some fat is still required, along with a balanced diet. There are oils such as olive, flaxseed and fish that provide you with the healthy fats that are very important. Nuts and legumes offer healthy fats as well. Meat products and trans fats are the source of saturated fats (which are not good fats), and should be eaten in moderation.

Starving yourself is one guaranteed way to not lose weight so do not try it. To stay healthy while you are dieting, you must never restrict the proper amounts of nutrients that you require to keep your body in shape. As a rule, eating less than 1000 calories per day is not a good idea, and this number varies based upon your gender and how big you are. When the body detects that it is not receiving enough nutrients, you will find yourself gaining more weight after losing it to stay healthy. Though you will gain some weight back, using a detox system for internal cleansing may help you shed a few pounds quickly.

You may have to try several diet plans before finding the best one because there are so many. Some people like a little flexibility in their diet plan, while some prefer ones that tell them exactly what to eat. While you may need to cut down on the calories you eat, you will generally do better with a diet that doesn't make you feel deprived.
